Physicists were thinking far ahead of their time in a very intelligent way. They saw what w
as going to happen before it actually did. They thought about modern computing in the 1950s,they imagined a lot of the technological progress that we would see only decades later in the real world. They were asking very theoretical questions because these ideas were still so far removed from practice. And they asked very moral questions as well, because the things they conceptualized could be used for great good or for great evil.It could go either way,so moral judgments had to be made.

Danny was just tired about the way things were going. His mom came to the school and went
on and on about Rick Jackson. It seemed that she would never stop talking. "Somebody's got to stop that boy!" she was shouting. "Rick's troubling everybody in the neighborhood. And he loves to pick on little boys like Danny."

Mrs. Green, Danny's teacher, was concerned a lot. "I didn't know that Danny was being picked on," she answered. "He's never said anything about this to me!" Mrs. Green looked at Danny. "How long has this been going on?" she asked. Danny could only shake his head and look at the floor, He knew if he said a word about this, he would have trouble after school.

Danny hadn't said anything about the problem because he wanted to do things with the boys in the neighborhood. After all, most of them were nice to him. He hated to leave the gang just because of Rick. Maybe the time had come to find new friends. He felt it hard to make up his mind.

A.Danny was not a good student

B.Danny's mother talked too much about the school

C.Danny's teacher knew something about Danny's problem before

Does a bee know what is going on in its mind when it navigates its way to distant food sou
rces and back to the hive (蜂房), using polarized sunlight and the tiny magnet it carries as a navigational aid? Or is the bee just a machine, unable to do its mathematics and dance its language in any other way? To use Donald GrifTm's term, does a bee have awareness, or to use a phrase I like better, can a bee think and imagine?

There is an experiment for this, or at least an observation, make long ago by Karl Von Frisch and more recently confirmed by James Gould at Princeton, Biologists who wish to study such things as bee navigation, language, and behavior. in general have to train their bees to fly from the hive to one or another special place. To do this, they begin by placing a source of sugar very close to the hive so that the bees (considered by their trainers to be very dumb beasts) can learn what the game is about. Then, at regular intervals, the dish or whatever is moved progressively father and farther from the hive in increments (增长) of about 25 percent at each move. Eventually, the target is being moved 100 feet or more at a jump, very far from the hive. Sooner or later, while this process is going on, the biologists shifting the dish of sugar will find the bees are out there waiting for them, precisely where the next position had been planned. This is an uncomfortable observation to make.

With what subject is the passage mainly concerned?

A.The bee, a social animal.

B.Navigational techniques of bees.

C.Testing the awareness of bees.

D.The bee hive, nature's candy shop.

Things are finally being made in the U.S.A. again! Better yet, a whole new crop of newer b
usinesses are growing based on the fact that every product they sell is manufactured right here in the United States. Most newer businesses are for products made and marketed locally, such as a dog biscuit brand out of San Luis Obispo, but old standards like Unionwear are still going strong. In fact, Unionwear owner has had a whole host of new customers calling him. The fact that more consumers are seeking out American-made products in greater numbers is a good thing for business owners. That means that they will be willing to pay a little bit more for your products and services—as long as you capitalize on the fact that your products were made here. The shift back to treasuring American-made goods follows several horrific disasters in factories overseas. Coupled with the publics strong desire to see the American economy rise again, many consumers are looking for products made in the U.S.A., even if they cost a bit more. Even Walmart is making an effort to carry more domestically made goods in stores. Ultimately, your customers want to buy things without having to wonder if a small child made it for just pennies a day. This renewed passion for domestic products is great for businesses. Forecasters predict that labor costs in China are going to rise, which means that the country will no longer be the center of cheap manufacturing. If the cost of Chinese labor surges, it will no longer be cost-efficient for companies to ship their manufacturing jobs overseas. If your business is not already manufacturing domestically, maybe now is the time you should start. If your business already makes its products in the United States, now is a great time for marketing. When you are reminding potential customers that your products are America-made, be sure to be clear. False patriotism will turn your customers off, even if you have a great product. The fact that consumers are seeking American products with renewed intensity encourages all business owners to take advantage of this passion by cleverly marketing the fact that you are a domestic or local business. With patriotic summer holidays upon us, why not have a sale to capitalize on your companys patriotic support of the American economy? Your customers will love it and so will you.

It can be inferred from the first paragraph that Unionwear is______.

A.a set of quality standards for various commodities

B.a shop that has never sold any locally-made products

C.a shop that has been selling mostly home-made goods

D.is a stock that has been rising in value in America
