听力原文: "Where is the university? is question many visitors to Cambridge ask, but no one could point them in any one direction because there is no campus. The university consists of thirty-one self-governing colleges. It has lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, museums and offices throughout the city(32).

Individual colleges choose their own students (33), who have to meet the minimum entrance requirements set by the university. Undergraduates usually live and study in their colleges, where they are taught in very small groups. Lectures, and laboratory and practical work are organized by the university and held in university buildings.

There are over ten thousand undergraduates and three thousand five hundred postgraduates. About 40% of them are women and some 8% from overseas. As well as teaching, research is of major importance. Since the beginning of the twentieth century, more than sixty university members have won Nobel prizes.

The university has a huge number of buildings for teaching and research. It has more than sixty specialist subject libraries, as well as the University Library, which, as a copyright library, is entitled to a copy of every book published in Britain(34).

Examinations are set and degrees are awarded by the university. It allowed women to take the university exams in 1881, but it was not until 1948 that they were awarded degrees(35).

(33)

A.Because there are no signs to direct them.

B.Because no tour guides are available.

C.Because all the buildings in the city look alike.

D.Because the university is everywhere in the city.

Are you one of those people who doesn’t trust anyone else to do what needs to be done? Some managers they can’t bear anyone else to help them in any way. They

34. don't believe that anyone can do such a job as well as they can. It is not surprising

35. that they then get overwhelmed by work and complain that they have far too much

36. to do, but it could be argued that it is by their own fault. If they learnt to delegate,

37. they would have much more time available. Besides the saving time and freeing

38. them to concentrate on tasks that are important, delegating also benefits to the

41. This will contribute itself not only to the success of the team, but to the success of

In the world in which we live today, a man may be one thing but appear to be another. This
was impossible in Indian society. An Indian's name told the world what he was - a coward, a liar, a thief, or a brave.

When I was young, every Indian had at least three names during his lifetime. His first name was given to him at birth. It described something that had happened at that time.

Each Indian was supposed to keep his birth name until he was old enough to earn money for himself. But his friends would always give him a name of their own. No matter what his parents called him, his childhood friends would use the name they had chosen.

The Indian earned his real name when he was old enough for his first fight against the enemy. His life name depended on how he acted during this first battle. When he returned he would be given his tribal name by the chief. If he had done well, he would be given a good name. But if he had done poorly, he might be given a bad name.

A man was given many chances to improve his name, however. If in a later battle he was very brave in fighting against the enemy, he was given a better name. Some Indians had as many as twelve names - all good and each better than the last.

All names given to one Indian belonged to him for the rest of his life. No one else could use them. Even he himself could not give them away. This was because no man could pass on his name unless the chief and the tribe asked him to do so.

According to passage, Indian names were important because they ______.

A.described the character of a man

B.described the appearance of a man

C.were never used by other people

D.told us his profession

She insists on writing with a (11)_____ type of pen in a certain type of notebook, which she buys from a certain stationer in Edinburgh called James Thin. In fact, so (12)_____ is she that, if someone uses one of her pens by (13)_____, she immediately throws it away. And she claims she (14)_____ enormous difficulty writing in any notebook other than (15)_____ sold by James Thin. This could soon be a (16)_____, as the shop no longer stocks them, (17)_____ Dame Muriel's supply of 72-page spiral bound is nearly (18)_____.

As well as her "obsession" about writing materials, Muriel Spark (19)_____ one other characteristic with the stereotypical "writer": her work is the most (20)_____ thing in her life. It has stopped her from marrying; cost her old friends and made her new ones, and driven her from London to New York to Rome. Today she lives in the Italian province of Tuscany with a friend.
