I had an experience recently with someone admitting to me that he had made a mistake fifteen years ago. He told me he had been the manager of a certain store in the neighborhood where I grew up; and he asked me if I remembered the egg cartons (in many countries, eggs are sold by the dozen and are put in cartons). Then he related an incident(event, matter)and I began to remember unclearly the incident he was describing.
I was about eight years old at the time. I went into the store with my mother to do some shopping. On that particular day, I must have found my way to the food department where the incident took place.

When he appeared, I was on my knees looking at some of the cartons to see if any of the eggs were broken, but to him it looked as though I was the one who just did it. He severely reprimanded me and wanted me to pay for any broken eggs. I tried to explain, but it did no good. Even though I quickly forgot all about the incident, it is plain that the manager did not.

Trust is the emotional glue that binds followers and leaders together. The accumulation of trust is a measure of the legitimacy of leadership. It cannot be demanded or purchased；it must be earned. Trust is the basic ingredient of all organizations，the lubrication that maintains the organization and it is as mysterious and difficult a concept as leadership—and as important.
One thing we can say for sure about trust is that if trust is to be generated，there must be predictability，the capacity to predict another’s behavior. Another way of putting it is to say that organizations without trust would resemble the ambiguous nightmare of Kafka’s The Castle，where nothing can be certain and nobody can be relied on or be held responsible. The ability to predict outcomes with a high probability of success generates and maintains trust.

I believe in people, in sheer, unadulterated humanity. I believe in listening to what people have to say, in helping them to achieve the things which they want and the things which they need. There is only the single human being who lives and who, through every moment of his own personal living experience, is being happy or unhappy, noble or base, wise or unwise, or simply existing.
The question is: How can these individual moments of human experience be filled with the richness of a philosophy which can sustain the individual in his own life？ Unless we give part of ourselves away, unless we can live with other people and understand them and help them, we are missing the most essential part of our own human lives.
There are as many roads to the attainment of wisdom and goodness as there are people who undertake to walk them. There are as many solid truths on which we can stand as there are people who can search them out and who will stand on them. There are as many ideas and ideals as there are men of good will who will hold them in their minds and act them in their lives.
