erneton their students. Teachers say the Internet has had a good influence(影响and a not-so-good influence on this generation.

Three quarters of the teachers say the Internet and search tools have had a great effect on theirstudents&39;research habits and skills. But 87 percent agree that this young generation don&39; t knowabout hard work and can&39;t stay attentive(注意力集中的) for long. And 64 percent say the Internetdoes more to distract (使分心)students than to help them in their studies. Many students think "doingresearch"just means doing a quick search on Google.

According to the teachers, one problem is that students trust too much of the information on theInternet. These students have not developed skills to judge the quality of the information. It&39; s some-thing that really has to be taught and paid attention to. It&39; s like everything else. In a world wherethings can happen quickly, you really need to have a way to step back, think and make judgmentabout the information you have. And teachers can do a lot to teach that.

Another problem is that being able to quickly find information keeps the students from workinghard. They become dependent on search tools and do not make enough use of printed books. Manyteachers are also afraid that the Internet makes it easy for students to copy work done by others.

36. What does the text mainly discuss about the Internet?

C.Its achievements in school research.

D.Its effect on high school students.

D.How to pay attention to their studies.

What will happen when students depend too much on search tools?A.Their studies will be greatly improved.

Read carefully the following excerpt and then write your response in NO LESS THAN 200 words, in which you should: ●summarize the main message of the excerpt, and then ●comment on whether our brains will get lazy in a world run by intelligent machines. You can support yourself with information from the excerpt. Marks will be awarded for content relevance, content sufficiency, organization and language quality. Failure to follow the above instructions may result in a loss of marks. With intelligent machines to do the thinking, will our brains get lazy? Changing technology stimulates the brain and increases intelligence. But that may only be true if the technology challenges us. In a world run by intelligent machines, our lives could get a lot simpler. Would that make us less intelligent? Artificial intelligence is taking over many human jobs. For instance, planes are being flown much of the time by automatic pilots. And the complex problem of controlling air traffic around large modern airports is also achieved by artificial intelligence that operates well beyond the capacity of mere human air traffic controllers. As machines get smarter, they will do more of our thinking for us and make life easier. In the future, the electronic assistant will develop to the point that it serves similar functions as a real living butler, fulfilling requests such as: “Organize a dinner party for six on Thursday, Jeeves, and invite the usual guests.” At that point, our long struggle with challenging technologies is at an end. Like Be Wooster, we can take it easy knowing that the hard work of planning and organizing is being done by a better brain-the electronic assistant. Starved of mental effort, our brains will regress.

As late as l800.women’s only place was in the home. The idea of women in the business

world was unthinkable.N0“nice’’woman would dream of entering what was strictly a“man’s wodd”.Even if she could, what would she do?Men were positive that no woman could handle a job outside her home. This was such a widely accepted idea that when the famous Bronte sisters began writing books.in 1 846,they disguised themselves by signing their books with men’s names.

The invention of the typewriter in 1 867 helped to bring women out of the home and into the business world.Because women had slender, quick fingers, they learned to operate typewriters quickly and well.Businessmen found that they had to hire women for this new kind of work.

Many people talked of the 288,000 new jobs the Labor Department reporled for Jure, along w
ith the drop in the unemployment take to 6 J percent. at good news. And they were right. For now it appears the economy is creating jobs at a decent pace. We still have a long way to go to get back to full employment, but at least we are now finally moving forward at a faster pace.

However there is another important part of the jobs picture that was targely ovedookcd. There was a big jump in the number of people who report voluntarily working part-time. This figure is now 830,000(4,4 percent)above its year ago level.

Before explaining the connection to the Obamacare, it is worth making an important distinction. Many people who work part-time jobs actually want full-time jobs. They take part-time work because this is all they can get. An increase in involuntary part-time work is evidence of weakness in the labor market and it means that many people will be having a very hard time making ends meet. There was an increase in involuntary part-time in June, but the general direction has been down. Involuntary part-time employment is still far higher than before the recession, but it is down by 640,000(9 percent)from its year ago level.

We know the difference between voluntary and involuntary part-time employment because people tell us. The survey used by the Labor Department asks people if they worked less than 35 hours in the reference week. If the answer is "yes."they are classified as working part-time. The survey then asks whether they worked less than 35 hours in that week because they wanted to work less than full time or because they had no choice. They are only elassified as voluntary part-time workers if they tell the survey taker they chose to work less than 35 hours a week.

The issue of voluntary part-time relates to Obamacare becanse one of the main purposes was to allow people to get insurance outside of employment. For many people, especially those with serious health conditions or family members with serious health conditions, before Obamacare the only way to get insurance was through a job that provided health insurance.

However, Obamacare has allowed more than 12 million people to either get insurance through Medicaid or the exchanges. These are people who may previously have felt the need to get a full-time job that provided insurance in order to cover themselves and their families. With Obamacare there is no longer a link between employment and insurance.

36. Which part of the jobs picture was neglected?

A.The prospect of a thriving job market.

B.The increase of voluntary part-time jobs.

C.The possibility of full employment.

D.The acceleration of job creation.

Many people work part-time because they___________________A.prefer part-time jobs to full-time jobs

B.feel that is enough to make ends meet

C.cannot get their hands on full-time jobs

D.haven' t seen the weakness of the market

The text mainly discusses___________________.A.employment in the US

B.part-timer classification

C.insurance through Medicaid

D.Obamacare's trouble

Involuntary part-time employment in the US___________________A.is harder to acquire than one year ago

B.shows a general tendency of decline

C.satisfies the real need of the jobless

D.is lower than before the recession

It can be learned that with Obamacare,___________________ . A.it is no longer easy for part-timers to get insurance

B.employment is no longer a precondition to get insurance

C.it is still challenging to get insurance for family members

D.full-time employment is still essential for insurance

When I was a kid I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up, but I knew what I didn’
t want to do. I didn’t even really know what one was. My elder brother is deaf. Growing up, I ended up defending him and I often think that is what started me on my path to whatever I am today.

When I was approached with the idea of trying to create a landmine(地雷) campaign, we were just three people in a small office in Washington, DC in late I had more than a few ideas about how to begin a campaign, but what if nobody cared? What if nobody responded? But I knew the only way to answer those questions was to accept the challenge.

But if I have any power as an individual, it&39;s because I work with other individuals around the world. We are ordinary people--Jemma from Armenia, Paul from Canada, Christian from Norway and thousands more-who have worked together to bring about extraordinary change. The landmine campaign is not just about landmines--it&39;s about the power of individuals to work with governments in a different way.

I believe in both my right and my responsibility to work to create a world that doesn&39;t think highly of violence and war, but where we seek different solutions to our common problems. I know that holding such beliefs is not always easy or comfortable--particularly in the post-9/ 11 world. But I believe that life is about trying to do the right thing.

Most people tend to get caught up in going to college, then getting a job, buying a house and paying the loan. Somehow, I’ve had the desire--and the drive--to do things a bit differently. If enough ordinary people back up our desire for a better world, I believe we can accomplish extraordinary things.

B.Because she got inspiration from protecting her brother

C.Because it was her duty to remove landmines

D.Because she was interested in whatever others disliked

What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?A.The author had made many foreign friends

B.The landmine campaign had spread all over the world

C.Many individuals join the landmine campaign to create a better world

D.The author’s friends joined her in fighting against the government

What can be inferred from the text?A.The present world is full of violence and war

B.Going to a famous university is the author’s belief

C.Most people take war and violence for granted

D.Settling problems peacefully is the author’s belief
